Yes, I admit it. I am one of those people that embraces a word of the year. I am also one of those people that chooses a one word intention for each day. Setting up a vibe to refer back to when chaotic life takes the reigns, is very grounding. It allows me to remain focused on an overarching vision or feeling that will set the tone for the day, week, month, and year. For my word of the year, I try to choose something that is aligned with my year’s vision and overall values.
This year that word is wonder.
I have a strong urge to stay in a place of curiosity. It keeps my relationships open, strong, and loving. If I can always take a step back from every decision or conversation to revel in the moment for a bit, I will have met my goal.
My hope is that remaining in a state of wonder will open my eyes and ears to the world of possibility in each situation, conversation and moment.
I hope to truly actively listen more to learn more.
And in turn deepen my relationships and forge new ones. By needing to always talk first or give an opinion (often unsolicited), I lose out on learning what the person needs and actual comforting them. Dalai Lama reflects on this perfectly: “When you talk, you are only repeating what you already know. But if you listen, you may learn something new.”
I hope to explore more.
For me, wonder and wander go together. I truly believe that not all that wander are lost, and I look forward to exploring this beautiful earth more with an open mind and heart.
I hope to hear myself more.
It’s easy to get caught up in the noise. To look through the tiny screen on our phones and jump to comparisons and conclusions. Instead, I plan to take a step back. To acknowledge that the tiny screen does not hold the real, full picture and that also there is plenty of abundance, peace, and joy for all. Moving into this abundance and peace mentality, will help me silent my inner critic and provide space to hone into my true authentic self.
Having this one intentional word brings a sparkle to my eye and a clearness that feels so liberating and exciting. I am so eagerly patient to see what beauty it unfolds.
Will you join me in making 2023 the year of wonder?
